PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project included the full roadway reconstruction of SR89A between Forest Road and Art Barn Road in the City of Sedona, an immensely busy tourist district of downtown Sedona. This is a highly-traveled corridor in a fully developed downtown area, thus pedestrian and vehicular traffic control were critical elements of the project. The project was completed in three phases with varying shifts in order to maximize off-peak traffic times and provide uninterrupted access to the tourism business, including several temporary driveways and pedestrian crossings.

PRECONSTRUCTION SERVICES

Banicki’s preconstruction efforts on this project allowed for early “clash detection” that translated to an incredible success for local businesses, including zero unplanned closures of vital parking areas, continual open lanes for nearly 12,000 vehicles per day, and the delivery of the project ahead of critical holiday milestones. Banicki also successfully implemented a three-phase value engineered construction sequence during preconstruction to maintain two lanes of traffic through the busy summer months in order to facilitate daily construction and an aggressive schedule while providing minimal impacts to pedestrians, vehicular traffic, and the adjacent businesses. We also engineered and constructed temporary wood pedestrian crossing over new construction areas, a value engineering innovation that eliminated the need to construct new pedestrian detours.
