This project was performed for Yavapai County Public Works. The purpose of this project was two-fold: perform a full rebuild of runway 5 / 23, addressing existing longitudinal gradient and line-of-sight deficiencies, and to create a Runway Safety Area (RSA) along Runway 5 / 23.
Project scope included a full runway pavement section rebuild and the construction of 4,550 LF of RSA on both sides of the runway. Additionally, the project included the construction of two new taxiway turnarounds with paved infields, and the implementation of drainage improvements such as culvert replacements and the installation of catch basins.
Throughout the project, challenges were encountered and overcome, such as the removal of large boulders from the subgrade and the management of heavy rainfall. Extensive core drilling was necessary to accommodate the installation of the PACS Monument.
