PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project improved the existing infields for better drainage and safety at Phoenix’s Deer Valley Airport (DVT). The existing infields had deep channel drainage that would retain water and overflow onto the runways and taxiways during storm events. Many of the existing infields were also stockpiled with excess material within the RSA (Runway Safety Area). Banicki provided infield drainage enhancements and safety improvements by removing 247,206 CY of excess soils and materials stockpiled within the infields; installing 18,518 LF Class V RCP ranging from 18” to 60”; placing 936,906 SY of P218 FAA crushed aggregate; and fine grading slopes to a maximum of 1.5% per safety requirements.

Banicki maximized the benefits of CMAR delivery in working closely with DVT facilities management to mitigate access and schedule impacts to airport tenants. Our Project Team was successful in our strict adherence to FAA mandated airside safety and security rules and regulations; management and inclusion of multiple stakeholders in the project communication stream; coordination of safety practices and training of staff to facilitate quality working conditions; as well as the planning and execution of non-traditional working hours to expedite project completion and avoid facilities disruption. A “FOD Squad” conducted FOD inspection walks on all haul routes during every shift with spot inspections throughout the night.
