DESCRIPTION

This project delivered a vital pedestrian and multimodal connection within the Indian Bend Wash Path by constructing a large box culvert beneath Chaparral Road to link two existing parks. The 114-foot-long, 16-foot-wide, 15-foot-tall structure was designed to ensure uninterrupted shared-use path access while also accommodating stormwater conveyance. The culvert enables pedestrians and cyclists to travel safely beneath the roadway, eliminating conflicts with surface traffic.

Banicki’s scope included constructing a new concrete box culvert, pavement section rebuilding, grouted riprap for erosion protection, decorative retaining walls, fencing, concrete flatwork, shared use path, as well as vehicular and pedestrian traffic control. Final site restoration featured new landscape rock, turf, and artistic hardscape to match the surrounding park setting. Completed ahead of schedule, the project enhances both flood resilience and continuous connectivity within one of Scottsdale’s most active recreational corridors.
