PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project won numerous awards for excellence in partnering, quality, and execution. The project involved the removal and replacement of 94,000 SY (19.4 acres) of concrete pavement affected by Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR) in the active Terminal 4 South Apron Area at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PSHIA). Work occurred in an active airport operational movement area directly adjacent to ongoing gate operations. Successful delivery required extensive coordination with PSHIA Operations, Southwest Airlines, the City of Phoenix Aviation Department, the City of Phoenix Environmental Department, and Design Team CH2M Hill to minimize airport impacts.

PRECONSTRUCTION SERVICES
During preconstruction, Banicki re-evaluated the phasing plans with the City of Phoenix Aviation Department (COP Aviation) to find ways to reduce cost and schedule impacts. Banicki and COP Aviation developed a revised phasing plan that took advantage of low air traffic volume and weekend work. As a result of these preconstruction efforts, Banicki was able to demo and pave larger portions of the concrete apron at a given time, thus enabling quicker turnaround for impacted gates.
